Is It Time for a Breast Lift?
Posted August 27, 2018 in Breast Lift
A breast lift is performed to restore youthfulness and shape to sagging breasts. Unfortunately, there will likely come a time for every woman when the shape and position of their breasts change and lose their youthful perkiness. While every woman experiences some degree of this, this alteration still affects the confidence and self-esteem of many women who feel as though their breasts have lost their femininity and appeal. For women who feel this way, a breast lift can remedy this insecurity and return youthfulness to the breasts.
Determining Your Breast Ptosis
Breast ptosis (sagging) results from many different factors. Genetics, gravity, aging of the skin and tissue, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and breastfeeding all cause your breasts to drop from their natural, original position on the chest. Other factors, such as heavier breasts or the lack of support of the breasts over time, also lead to additional sagging. Breast ptosis ranges from mild, where the nipple droops slightly, falling in line with the inframammary crease (where the breast connects with the ribcage), to severe, where the nipple may face downward instead of projecting out. If your nipples are beginning to “fall” from their previous position, a breast lift is an option to consider. Any level of breast ptosis can be addressed with a breast lift and is sure to restore contour and confidence.
Things To Know Before Your Breast Lift
A breast lift can help women of any age who are suffering from sagging related insecurities. Whether your sagging is due to a substantial amount of weight loss or the result of multiple pregnancies, it isn’t a fact that you need to accept blindly. Breast lift surgery allows you to regain your femininity, regardless of your age.
Your Breast Lift Incision
Dr. Careaga uses an incision method called an Inverted-T (or anchor) incision. The anchor is the most commonly used breast lift incision as it allows for more accuracy and ability to address all levels of ptosis, from mild to severe. In performing this, Dr. Careaga will make three incisions: the first is a circular incision made around the areola, the second is a vertical incision from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary crease, and the last is a horizontal incision made along the breast crease. This combination of incisions allows Dr. Careaga to tighten the sagging breast tissue, remove excess skin, reposition the nipple-areola complex, and return an aesthetically pleasing shape to the breasts.
Combining Procedures
While a breast lift is a standalone procedure, many women choose to combine their lift with augmentation or reduction. While a breast lift will not substantially reduce the size of the breasts, patients may discover that the breasts appear slightly smaller once the tissue and skin are tightened. Women who may have previously desired fuller breasts, or women who may have lost volume during pregnancy and breastfeeding, can choose to enhance the size of their breasts with implants during their breast lift. On the other hand, larger busted women can choose to incorporate a breast reduction in their lift procedure. The incisions are very similar between the two surgeries; the only difference is the amount of breast tissue removed. This makes combining breast reduction and a breast lift simple and successful.
