9 Reasons to Consider Tummy Tuck Surgery

Posted July 20, 2020 in Tummy Tuck

3 Minute Read:

Many people wrongly assume that tummy tuck surgery is only designed to give you a flat stomach. And while it does do that, a flat abdomen is far from the only thing accomplished with a tummy tuck.

There are several reasons—both aesthetic and physical—to consider tummy tuck surgery right now.

1. Repair of Abdominal Separation

The abdominal muscles commonly separate during pregnancy—a condition known as diastasis recti. Even if you lose excess fat and have good skin elasticity, there is no way to correct diastasis recti without surgery, and you will be left with an unwanted lower abdominal pooch. Tummy tuck surgery repairs this condition by surgically tightening and repairing the abdomen.

2. Trimming of Excess Skin

Excess skin that remains after pregnancy or weight loss will be surgically trimmed through an incision on the lower abdomen. This can reveal a smoother, tauter abdomen that will shine in a bikini.

3. Removal of Localized Fat

Combining liposuction with a tummy tuck removes fat pockets in the lower abdomen and surrounding areas for a trimmer, more sculpted abdominal contour. Whether you are looking for an hourglass shape or a less-curvy athletic build, liposuction and tummy tuck can help you get on the right track.

4. Reduction of Back Pain

Weakened abdominal muscles place extra strain on the back, which can result in discomfort and pain. Tummy tuck surgery tightens the muscles, thus easing the strain on the back.

5. Increased Ability to Exercise

Excess skin may rub together and chafe during exercises. Tummy tuck surgery removes this excess skin for enhanced comfort while allowing you to feel more comfortable in tighter-fitting activewear.

6. Hernia Repair

Ventral hernias can develop after weight loss, C-sections, or appendectomies. These are breaks in the abdominal wall that allow for abdominal tissue or the intestines to push through. Ventral hernias require surgical correction, and the techniques used for that are not vastly different from the techniques used during a tummy tuck. Why not repair the hernia and get a slimmer midsection at the same time?

7. Promotion of Better Posture

Tummy tuck increases abdominal strength as it repairs the abdominal muscles. This additional core strength allows the spine to be better supported, which will improve posture.

8. Easing of Stress Urinary Incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is common after pregnancy since the childbearing process causes the muscles and tissues in the pelvic floor to weaken. This causes frequent urinary leaks when laughing, coughing, and sneezing, and can be a burden on many women. Tightening the abdominal muscles with tummy tuck surgery supports the bladder and urethra, allowing for fewer instances of urinary incontinence.

9. Minimization of C-Section Scar

A tummy tuck can often be performed using your C-section scar, and as plastic surgeons place more care in the after-appearance of a surgical scar, a poorly healed scar may be minimized with this process.
