How Does Emsculpt® Differ From Liposuction?

Posted May 19, 2020 in Emsculpt®

4 Min Read:

The term body contouring can be difficult to decipher. There are dozens of products and procedures that promise it, and many of them rely on different definitions. Some include fat removal in their description, while others do not. Others affirm that body contouring is exclusively muscle-based, while others call injectables designed to break down fat ‘body contouring.’ Some definitions even include implants and other augmenting materials.

It’s not easy to figure out exactly what counts as body contouring, and what the various definitions mean for you in trying to find the treatment that will best address your concerns and enhance your physique.

While the definition of body contouring is broad, it can most easily be explained as any combination of fat reduction, muscle toning, and skin removal techniques to shape a more aesthetically pleasing figure.

So, which type of body contouring are you looking for?

Are You Looking to Reduce Fat?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that breaks down and physically removes stubborn pockets of fat. While liposuction does not remove sagging skin or affect muscle tone, it is among the most common body sculpting procedures performed worldwide. Liposuction can provide a more aesthetically pleasing figure by addressing some of the most widespread concerns after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging.

Liposuction relies on removing unwanted fat deposits. There are related procedures that can be done in conjunction with liposuction, such as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which transplants fat to more aesthetically pleasing locations. These procedures are cosmetic, and the effects will fade if the patient gains or loses a significant amount of weight (such as during pregnancy).

Are You Looking to Define Your Abdominal Area?

Emsculpt® is a non-surgical body sculpting technique that burns limited amounts of fat while strengthening and toning muscles.

Emsculpt® works by using non-invasive HIFEM® (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to cause muscle contractions, which stimulates growth and burns fat simultaneously. This procedure uses electric-based muscle stimulation to cause workout-like muscle contractions in muscles that may not be possible using traditional workout routines. This treatment results in more toned muscles in the treated areas.

How Do Liposuction and Emsculpt® Stack Up Against Each Other?

The main difference between liposuction and Emsculpt® is the tissues they target. Liposuction focuses exclusively on fat deposits, while Emsculpt® addresses muscle tissues. The two procedures both reshape the patient’s silhouette, but only Emsculpt® improves existing muscle tone as it uses HIFEM® technology to mimic the muscular contractions experienced during an intense workout. These contractions allow the actual muscles to appear more toned and fit, opposed to liposuction which only addresses excess fat cells.

Are Liposuction and Emsculpt® Interchangeable?

Liposuction and Emsculpt® contour the body in different ways. While they may work together to provide high-quality results, neither procedure can replace the other or achieve what the other can.

Can Emsculpt® and Liposuction Work Together?

If you want to give your core a total makeover, you may want to consider combining the fat-reducing power of liposuction with the muscle-enhancing strength of Emsculpt®.

While combining these two techniques can significantly improve your figure, they cannot be performed together. Liposuction, as a surgical technique, creates incisions which cannot be safely exposed to HIFEM® emissions without risking injury. Emsculpt® does not produce incisions or scarring, and thus can be performed either before or after a liposuction procedure.

To attain the best results while combining procedures, Careaga Plastic Surgery often recommends that Emsculpt® be performed following your recovery from a liposuction treatment.

How Do I Decide Which Body Contouring Treatment Is Right for Me?

Emsculpt® and liposuction are both body contouring procedures that can help you achieve the figure of your dreams. Liposuction can remove fat, while Emsculpt® tones and strengthens your muscles. Emsculpt® is a faster, less invasive procedure, while liposuction provides longer-lasting results in a single treatment. Together, liposuction and Emsculpt® address the full gamut of body contouring, covering fat and muscle.
