How Eyelid Surgery Improves Your Vision

3 Minute Read:
Many people undergo blepharoplasty or eyelid lift surgery to improve their appearance and make them look younger. However, some people have excess eyelid skin that hangs down, impairing their vision.
Peripheral vision impairment occurs when a significant amount of loose, weak upper eyelid skin droops over the eyes. This makes it harder to see, especially in the upper and outer parts of the visual field. In such cases, an individual may find it difficult to engage in certain activities like driving or reading since the overall eyesight is narrowed.
How Does an Eyelid Lift Affect Your Vision?
Your blepharoplasty procedure can be done on the upper or lower eye to improve obstructed vision. It is done as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation.
For the upper eyelid lift, the incisions are made on the upper eyelid crease, and any excess skin and bulging fat are removed. An incision is made for those with excess lower eyelid skin or under-eye bags either on the inside of the eyelids or on the skin just below the eyelashes to remove the redundant eyelid tissue or fat.
While blepharoplasty improves vision by removing excess skin that obscures your field of vision, it does not directly address problems inside the eye itself. It is only meant to correct vision loss due to excess upper lid skin or fat that blocks the eye.
Put Your Best Face Forward With Blepharoplasty
Besides correcting vision disturbances, blepharoplasty is performed for aesthetic reasons. As we get older, the delicate skin around our eyelids is prone to drooping and sagging, making us look old, tired, and unhappy. An eyelid lift produces significant results by removing excess skin and fat and tightening the tissues around the eyes for a younger, more vibrant appearance.
With excess skin and fat removed from the eyelids, patients look well-rested and alert, further boosting self-confidence.
Which Eyelid Lift Option Is Right for Me?
The best way to determine what surgical eyelid option is right for you is to consult with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Careaga or Dr. Durand. During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss your treatment options in detail based on your specific needs, unique anatomy, and appearance goals.
Considering each individual is unique, it is best to discuss your questions and design a custom treatment plan that addresses your concerns.
