Try Artefill Injections

Posted December 13, 2016 in Plastic Surgery

Artefill is a permanent dermal filler that is used to get rid of nasolabial lines, folds, and creases. It is composed of synthetic microspheres and bovine collagen. The nasolabial lines are formed by the lack of collagen in the body. Artefill cures this problem and leaves you with a fresh look. It is manufactured by Suneva Medical and is used by qualified, well-trained surgeons.

Artefill consists of synthetic polymer beads, scientifically referred to as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The beads are held in cow collagen, which is absorbed by the body. The fillers also contain lidocaine (an anesthetic) to make the procedure painless. Artefill is injected under the skin, above the fat layer, using a threading or tunnel technique. These techniques are only used for Artefill and three other dermal fillers. Once inserted, the collagen is absorbed by the body while the microspheres remain in place and hold their shape. When the collagen is depleted, more collagen is injected to keep the PMMA beads in place.

The Procedure

Before getting an Artefill injection, it is necessary to find a qualified surgeon, as the procedure is unique and complicated. Once you have consulted a surgeon and discussed in length about the filler, risks, benefits, and procedures, you can set up an appointment.

Before the procedure, skin allergies, previous medical conditions and surgeries need to be revealed to the doctor. A skin allergy test is conducted to make sure that you are not allergic to the components of the injection.

The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and requires a second sitting after a certain amount of time. Once injected, some immediate results can be seen. However, the permanent results become evident a few days after the surgery, when the skin forms collagen. Since it is a permanent filler, touch-ups will be required after long periods of time, as changes in your skin affect the filler.

Benefits of Artefill

Artefill is a permanent solution that lasts for more than 5 years at a time. Unlike temporary fillers, there is no need for constant visits to your plastic surgeon. Other semi-permanent options last for a maximum of 2 years. The filler is also relatively safe and results in minor side effects like numbness, swelling and sensitivity. In some cases, mild bruising is present for 3-5 days after the procedure. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

Artefill injections can be administered quickly with minimal pain to the patient. The recovery time for this procedure is very short. Most patients can behave normally as soon as the procedure is complete.

Am I Suitable for This Procedure?

Anyone over the age of 18 and not allergic to bovine collagen can get the procedure done. It is important to have an open discussion with your doctor about possible results. Experimentation with temporary fillers is recommended before getting permanent fillers. Patients not suitable for this procedure are those that are taking aspirin or other NSAID medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those who are undergoing immunosuppressive therapy.
