What Can Chin Implants Do for You?

Posted May 31, 2022 in Chin Implant, Facial Plastic Surgery

3 Minute Read:

While you may not hear a lot about chin implants, when it comes to making a dramatic impact on facial aesthetics, this procedure can be as effective as a nose job (rhinoplasty) or a facelift.

This simple and straightforward cosmetic surgery can improve facial balance and increase confidence significantly for the right candidate. Results also last much longer than dermal fillers.

Why Have Chin Augmentation?

The reason most individuals undergo chin augmentation with implants is to enhance a small chin. This condition is sometimes referred to as a weak chin because when looking at the facial profile, the neck appears more prominent and tends to blend in with the face.

When the chin’s projection is increased, the neck appears leaner, more defined, and younger-looking.

Receiving chin augmentation can even tighten the neck to a degree, as some of this skin will be pulled up to accommodate the implant.

A small chin can also draw attention to the nose, making it appear larger. A strong chin separates the face from the neck, clearly defines the profile, and gives a healthier, more energetic, and confident appearance.

What Is Chin Augmentation?

A chin implant is used to increase the projection and height of a small chin while enhancing the profile and balance of the face. Movement or reshaping of the jawbone may also be necessary in some cases.

Some people think a chin implant would look obvious, but that is not the case, and chin implants can produce transformative results with a subtle but significant change.

What Is the Chin Implant Process?

The incision to place a chin implant is made under the chin, and the scar is typically undetectable. Occasionally, a surgeon may make the incision inside the mouth, but this makes the procedure a bit riskier because of the concentration of nerves.

Once the implant is secured to the bone, the incisions are closed.

Chin implants are designed to last forever. While most patients never want their implants removed, doing so is a simple procedure.

What Shapes Do Chin Implants Come In?

Most chin implants are made from solid silicone.

There are a wide variety of chin implants shapes and thicknesses to choose from. These implants can be thin to augment only a narrow area, or they can be thicker. Some wrap around the entire jaw bone, and others are narrow, projecting only at the front, and can have a square shape or be pointier.

Do Chin Implants Move?

It is essential to protect the implant in the few weeks following your surgery and keep it from moving out of place. This is uncommon but can happen, and surgery is required to put it back in place.

However, your chin implant will not move out of position once healed.

Combining Other Facial Cosmetic Surgeries With Chin Implants.

Chin augmentation can be done as a stand-alone procedure but is often combined with other facial surgeries. The three most common procedures to combine with chin implants or augmentation are as follows:

  • Nose job (rhinoplasty) – The chin and nose contribute heavily to facial balance, and the procedures to correct issues relating to them can produce stunning results.
  • Facelift (rhytidectomy) – When opting for a facelift to address skin laxity and wrinkles, those with weak chins often add a chin implant to their procedure.
  • Liposuction of the neck – When fat deposits contribute to a double chin, liposuction can be used to ensure an appealing neck and chin contour.
