There’s a new empowering trend in the quest of many to look and feel their best. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported a 54% increase in breast reduction procedures between 2019 and 2022. In this blog, we explore some of the reasons why breast reductions may be on the rise, what makes someone a good candidate for breast reduction, and how breast reduction can change your life.

“Reel” Stories About Breast Reduction

One of the reasons breast reductions may be on the rise is an increase in women telling their stories about positive experiences with cosmetic surgery. Social media allows women to access the life experiences of women who have defied societal expectations in choosing a surgical solution that usually focuses less on appearances and more on feeling comfortable in their bodies. Watching others tell their stories via multimedia, women who crave breast reduction can see that they’re not alone. Hearing others talk candidly about their successful breast reduction surgeries and how their lives have improved as a result can motivate other women to take the leap and explore how breast reduction can benefit them.

Breast Reduction Is a Form of Self-Care

A frequent topic of conversation in recent years has been the importance of self-care. Self-care doesn’t just mean resting after a stressful day or taking some time for yourself. It also means doing things that markedly increase your well-being and comfort. A breast reduction can do both: restoring your confidence in your appearance, allowing you to participate more fully in your life, and eliminating the physical discomfort that often accompanies overly large breasts.

Run, Don’t Walk to Get a Breast Reduction

Everyone knows that exercise can (and should) be tough at times. Running, lifting weights, yoga—they all have their own challenges and difficulties. However, imagine trying to attempt these activities with significantly extra pounds on your chest. Not only is there more weight, but large breasts can pull and bounce painfully when you run, decrease your range of motion when lifting weights, and even hinder you from settling correctly into certain yoga poses.

A breast reduction can change all that, eliminating excess weight on your chest and making it easier to breathe, run, and get the most out of your exercise routine without exerting a huge toll on your back and shoulders.

Decreased Breast Size, Increased Serotonin

Having large breasts may seem like the feminine body ideal (hence the popularity of breast augmentation), but overly large breasts can hurt a woman’s confidence. Finding pretty lingerie or cute tops that fit properly is a constant challenge, and participating in activities that require jumping or running has too much potential for embarrassment. These issues can have a significant impact on your mental health, making you feel like you should hide your breasts and keeping you from thoroughly enjoying your life.

Many women who have undergone breast reduction surgery talk about how it was life-changing for them because it gave them back the freedom and confidence to wear what they wanted and do what they wanted without the fear of a wardrobe malfunction or other awkward situations.

Large Breasts Can Be a Pain in the Neck

Women often feel they carry the world’s weight on their shoulders, but that’s not supposed to be a literal daily burden. Large breasts can weigh three pounds each or even more. While that may not seem much depending on your height and overall frame, it’s a lot to carry around constantly on the front of your body. Large breasts may cause chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain and even cause your bra straps to leave permanent grooves in your shoulders.

A breast reduction alleviates those weighty issues by reducing the strain on your body. You can stand straighter and enjoy your life free from continuous strain on your back and shoulders.

Am I A Good Candidate For Breast Reduction?

If any of the above reasons to seek breast reduction ring true for you, you are likely a good candidate for breast reduction. Breast reduction surgery may be the answer for you if you have the following:

  • Breasts that are overly large or out of proportion with the rest of your body
  • Chronic pain or rashes associated with large breasts
  • Difficulty exercising or participating in physical activities
  • Decreased self-confidence due to the size of your breasts
  • Difficulty finding clothes and bras that fit well

Women who wish to undergo breast reduction surgery should also be over the age of 18.
