Will Non-surgical Facial Rejuvenation Make Surgery Obsolete?

Posted May 04, 2020 in Non-surgical Facial Rejuvenation

2 Min Read:

In recent years the popularity of non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments has risen significantly. Some in Miami have even suggested that the availability of cheaper and increasingly more effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques will spell the end for surgical interventions.

Despite the better quality and lower cost of non-surgical rejuvenation techniques coming onto the market, the popularity of surgical procedures has also increased, supporting the idea that facial surgery is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Who Chooses Non-surgical Treatments? A Closer Look at the Demographics

In 2018, both plastic surgery and non-surgical treatments saw significant changes among some of the most common demographics. According to reports from the American Society of Plastic Surgery(ASPS), patients in the 55 years and up demographic are considering welcoming non-invasive approaches, whereas those in the 30 to 39 year demographic are considering surgical procedures.

While non-surgical treatments are becoming more popular faster than surgical procedures, demand for both is increasing, demonstrating that facial rejuvenation is definitely having a moment—one almost guaranteed to last.

This also suggests that the improvement and increased popularity of non-invasive treatments will not undercut the facial plastic surgery market.

What Can Non-surgical Treatments Do?

Non-surgical treatments can provide several valuable benefits for patients. These may include:

  • Reducing wrinkles
  • Smoothing skin texture
  • Removing fine lines
  • Restoring volume

While these benefits are great, they can be accomplished with surgical procedures as well. The main advantages of non-invasive procedures, such as facial injectables, laser treatments, or PiXeL8-RF treatments (as compared to surgical procedures), are their minimal to no scarring, faster and less painful recovery, and lower cost.

On the other hand, the results of non-surgical treatments tend to last for shorter periods and require more frequent sessions to maintain good results.

What Can Surgical Procedures Do That Non-surgical Techniques Can’t?

Surgical procedures produce results that non-invasive procedures simply cannot match (at least not yet). Facial surgery reduces skin laxity, lifts tissues, removes or repositions fat pads, and restores youthful contours guaranteed to last for years.

While non-surgical techniques can reduce skin laxity to a limited degree, removing excess skin and repositioning tissue remains the exclusive purview of surgical procedures such as facelift surgery or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

Overall, surgical procedures provide longer-lasting and superior quality results. Although they come at an initially higher price point, many patients find that the cost for repeated non-surgical treatments often even out.

Which Cosmetic Treatment Is Right for Me?

While non-surgical treatments are improving in terms of quality and achievable results, they are still generally unable to match the quality and longevity of surgical treatments. Nonetheless, non-invasive procedures remain a viable alternative for patients who are looking for quicker results with shorter recovery time.
